This post is all about easy tips that I find work for silky smooth hair, this is for anyone with dyed hair, chemically treated, currently have or had highlights, or if you just want to have really smooth hair regardless of any of that.
There's a lot of things that can make you feel confident and silky shiny hair is definetly one of them. I've been having highlights for as long as I can remember! I started going blonde gradually at aged 14-15. This was a major deal for me and I have had some hair disasters!! (But haven't we all?)
I think it's all about growing up. Experimenting is a good way to know what does and doesn't work for you. At 14 this may work out terribly wrong! But it's hair it'll grow.
I feel really happy with my hair and have done for the past 3-4 years. It's all about learning what is best for & then learning how to look after your hair well to keep it in its best condition. I also want to add having blonde hair does not ruin your hair if you get it done properly & gradually. I've had blonde hair for 7 years and it's in great condition. The thing to remember is patience to get to your desired colour. I can't even imagine being dark haired now, I think blonde is part of me now & I love how it compliments my skin and eyes!
Here are my tips that have helped me achieve silky smooth blonde hair;
1. Smart-bond or Olaplex

Whenever I get my hair done I have smart-bond put in with my toner. I have been having this for years and it's an absolute life saver. It seals the bonds of your hair to keep it healthy. The smart bond or olaplex is put on after your toner. Having toners is also a great way to maintain ashy blonde hair and to avoid brass which is a blondes biggest challenge! I use toning shampoo's like touch of silver or John Freda to keep brass at bay. This doesn't need to be used all the time but maybe once a week or once a fortnight. This helps to naturalise the brassy tones which can develop quicker in naturally darker hair.
2. Shampoo & conditioner

As well as a good shampoo, investing in a good conditioner is another sure way to keep your hair looking and feeling great. Because I get smart bond I use the step 3 smart bond conditioner, this product gives you the softest locks and keeps my hair in great condition. Other conditioners I think are great, are conditioners designed just for blonde hair, ones that help keep your hair colour bright and radiant. I really love the Quai smooth conditioner. The Quai repair shampoo is great to use too but I don't think its sulphate free.
3. Having days between hair washes

This can be a challenge if you normally wash your hair daily but having a day or more free of hair washing is really good for your hair. It also means you get more time for sleep in the mornings on those days or more time to do more in the evenings! If you normally wash your hair everyday, start small, just try one day in-between and use dry shampoo in-between if it gets too greasy. You can train your hair to go days without it just gets used to what it knows and your body produces more oils because it is constantly being stripped of its natural oils after every wash. It may take a few weeks to train your hair but it will get easier. I started with 1 hair wash free day a week and now I can easily go 3-4 days with no problems. My hair feels better for it and it means I'm not faffing around washing and styling my hair every other day. You will know how long you can go and what works for you with patience and experimenting.
4. Limit heat styling

This is a key part of keeping hair silky and smooth. Trying to only use heat tools once or twice between hair washes or to not use them at all. Lets be realistic though so frizz just needs to be tamed. My hair goes a kind of weird wavy texture which only looks nice occasionally but normally I just look a mess. I use my pro blo curlers after 80% of my hair has dried naturally. This allows my hair to dry in a healthier way and means I can use less heat. I style my hair after my shower with my curlers and GHD hair dryer. I have tried and tested the pro blo with an awful hotel hairdryer and you get the same result! Before styling I spray my hair with heat protectant spray and after styling I put in my favourite serum and set it with a bit of hairspray to keep the bouncy waves. I find this stays in until my next hair wash. If I feel it isn't, I just wear my hair up as it looks better up after a few days and it also gives my hair a break, I feel as I touch it less when its up. If its down I'm constantly playing with the ends of my hair.
5. Deep conditioning

Deep conditioners are great for any hair type. Because blonde hair is a bit more porous its important to treat to hair masks and head massages. Head massages are good for hair growth and keeping the scalp healthy. Hair masks help to keep the ends of hair in good condition which is so important with blonde hair. I use one once or twice a week and I always feel better for it. The ones I am currently using are L'oreal colour vibrant ones. I like making my own i.e olive oil masks and egg masks as it's cheap and natural. I also sometimes just use serums and leave them in overnight because it does a similar job!
