While many New Year messages are about cutting down and eating less, you don’t need to starve yourself in January to achieve your healthy weight goals. I absolutely love my job and have been doing lots of courses lately on well being, nutrition and stress management. Feeling good in yourself isn't just based on new years resolutions like cutting out sweets etc. it is to do with physical and mental well being and keeping the balance is what can help you feel better in yourself all year round.
Food:
Ditch the detox and just focus on realistic goals and healthy foods.
Wholegrains – brown rice, wholemeal breads, brown pasta, whole rye and other grains like bulgur wheat and spelt. Fibre doesn't tend to get much attention but has an massive impact on your digestive system and can prevent against heart disease, type 2 diabetes and even cancers. Want a glowing complexion without exposure to harmful sun? Fruit and veg are your best friends. We literally are what we eat and I certainly notice a change in my own appearance and skin if I haven't eaten much fruit or veg for a day or two. It also helps me to feel better in myself, I feel less sluggish if I don't and have more energy if I do. We all know fruit and veg are good for us, but the fact fruit and veg can also give you an attractive healthy glow is an added bonus.
Mind:
Keep learning, keep growing, set yourself goals and try to stick to them. Your mental health is just as important as physical health and needs just as much attention as your diet. Being mindful in your day to day life be it eating, walking, socialising all helps you to feel better overall. Make time for yourself and what you love to do. Try not to let work take over your life even though it can be so easy to work later than you should. Those aren't the things you will look back on and think 'I loved working late' rather than making the memories with your family/friends or pets. Or coming home to enjoy your favourite hobby. Making sure you put yourself as priority is one of the best things you can do for your mental well being.
Body:
Exercises makes your feel good, not only physically but mentally too. I don't mean going to the gym or starting an exercise class. You can look after your body by doing some muscle relaxing exercises, pampering yourself or going for a walk after work to de-stress. Starting an exercise you enjoy will make it so much more appealing, it's all about finding what it is you do enjoy.

There are many things you can do to support yourself and it's finding what you love and enjoy. I hope you enjoyed reading and have a positive year!
